LAST WEEKEND OF SEASON AT LEAST.
The last weekend of the season will be Friday & Saturday October 3rd and 4th weather permitting. As always if we have to cancel a night it will be posted here as well as sent out to the mailing list.
After this next weekend I don't really know what will happen, but it would now appear likely that this has been the last season for the Sit & Vue. I have been told that the funding is now in place for the building to go in. The tenitive date for breaking ground right now is in early May 2015. That would definitely close us down.
I have said for the last several years now that when the Sit & Vue closes that I would start another Backyard theater possibly at a tenitive location down the street from me. However after careful consideration I have decided that I am simply no longer up to starting all over again.
There has been a friend of a friend that has been coming to darn near every movie I have shown at the Sit & Vue for the last several years, that has expressed the desire to have a BYT of his own. I am going to help him get up running rather than opening a new theater myself. This seems like the best thing to do give in the situation.
This fall will be mostly a planning stage for us, and anything that needs to be built we'll try to do over the winter so he can open up this spring. For the first year at least he will get full use of all the equipment that I own, and I will be for the most part running the theater for him and showing him the ropes and the how to's. The FM transmitter that I had on loan for this season, he has now bought so that part is totally his and a fairly large investment.
If the Sit & Vue does somehow miraculously have one more season, then we will either use one or the other theater or figure out a way to operate both, I do actually have enough equipment to do that. The one big issue I do see, is that his space is, much, much smaller than the Sit & Vue, some sort of RSVP program might have to be put in place to avoid over running his place on movie nights.
He has expressed some desire to disassemble, repair and move the screen that is currently the Sit & Vue screen. I have been encouraging him to go with something else, something a little more manageable for a BYT such as billboard vinyl or maybe simply trying a white trap for the first season, but he is really likes the plywood screen, so we'll see what happens when he gets to look over the screen close up in the day light.
That is all for now, I will post additional updates though out the winter as the new theater progresses and the status of the Sit & Vue as well. One last thing, as April 2015 begins to approach I intend do one final showing / party at the Sit & Vue. Thanks everybody for coming out to the movies though all these, many, many years.
